A beautiful day today albeit a work day. The birds busily scampered after this year's bounty of insects that flew and crawled around the yard. Insects and our lawn seems to be the only things enjoying all the rain we've had so far this summer. The local hummingbird zipped, sipped and zoomed through our lovely bee-balm garden around lunchtime when I emerged from a partticularly intense day of work to retrieve the mail. Nothing good in the mail, bu the way. The sun arced over the sky and the day grew progressively muggier as the sun set.
Those lazy days of summer grow ever hazier in my memory as the earth circles the sun. . .a lazy day is almost unheard of lately. My grandmother would sit on our back porch all day after she retired and moved in with us. I being in my early teens could not fathom how boring it MUST have been for her. I'd now PAY to have that luxury. She wasn't interested in material things but supremely enjoyed watching life and others lives happen around her. Sometimes I wish I'd learn and understand the passivve lessons unwittingly taught by my ancestors while they were still here. That day will be a bright and sunny one if and when it comes.
Until then...expect a very rainy midweek.
