Relax

This year's summer rains are starting to relax as is the author of this blog. Having recently returned from the Cayman Islands, I can attest that it is never, ever "really" humid here in the northeast. The Caymans however have the benefit of an ever-present easterly breeze (the "trade" winds that helped blow ships from continent to continent in the early days of "trade"). Temperatures went to 90 and no lower than 80 on a daily basis. That's damn hot and humid! Let me tell you: with crystal clear water that's a virtual aquarium of brightly colored fish and coral and every color of blue water imaginable, I would stay there forever.

It's hot and humid. Summer has finally arrived. Take some time to relax and enjoy this abbreviated season before the next seasonal corner arrives in a month or so.

A glorious weather day!

A beautiful day today albeit a work day. The birds busily scampered after this year's bounty of insects that flew and crawled around the yard. Insects and our lawn seems to be the only things enjoying all the rain we've had so far this summer. The local hummingbird zipped, sipped and zoomed through our lovely bee-balm garden around lunchtime when I emerged from a partticularly intense day of work to retrieve the mail. Nothing good in the mail, bu the way. The sun arced over the sky and the day grew progressively muggier as the sun set.

Those lazy days of summer grow ever hazier in my memory as the earth circles the sun. . .a lazy day is almost unheard of lately. My grandmother would sit on our back porch all day after she retired and moved in with us. I being in my early teens could not fathom how boring it MUST have been for her. I'd now PAY to have that luxury. She wasn't interested in material things but supremely enjoyed watching life and others lives happen around her. Sometimes I wish I'd learn and understand the passivve lessons unwittingly taught by my ancestors while they were still here. That day will be a bright and sunny one if and when it comes.

Until then...expect a very rainy midweek.

It's Monday and that means of course it'll be a lovely weather day that unfortunately will only be admired from the windshield and from the cubicle. The weather is bright and sunny after 0.43 inches of rain on a stormy Sunday. I'm hoping for a breeze this evening so we can take a walk without getting consumed by the buzzard-sized mosquito's that seem to grow in size and number with each raindrop.

Here's to hoping the days of August live up to the stereotypical "dog days" label and dispel the "Lost Summer" notion that so far rings true here in New England.

And the sun shone at 5pm...

Today's weather. I am quite interested in the weather for a variety of reasons similar to most but different in a few key aspects. My mind is like the weather: sunny, cloudy, stormy, foggy and sometimes clear. It also suffers from the occasional monsoon. Society for better or worse seems to have it's own weather patterns too. These can be individual and collective patterns or patternless. I'll try not to drown folks with weather metaphors but I warn you it may be at times unavoidable!

Today's weather was quite stormy, thundery and rainy. Much the same fare as New England's experienced since June. My wife reminded me that the hottest day we can remember was back in April. April! The poor folks who own pools...a lost summer tending an expensive pond that can't even help boost your home value in these lousy times. Bah. As much as I want a pool (very badly indeed) an indoor pool would be the only reasonable option this summer.

I'm learning that blogging while making dinner is not a great idea.

From time to time I'll tap out a few thoughts that are hopefully amusing, interesting, and may in fact be a window into my mind that you may have an easier time seeing through than I.
